Built in the 15th Century, Topkapi Palace was the home of the sultans and the centre of Ottoman power for 400 years. A vast series of impressive buildings is set around large courtyards. They include ornate pavilions, an elegant library, the Treasury, and the harem where the sultan’s wives and concubines lived. Many of the buildings house lavish apartments and glittering displays of jewels, imperial costumes, manuscripts and other treasures. The gardens offer beautiful views over Istanbul and the Bosphorus.
