The town of Hacibektas is named after Haci Bektas Veli, a Sufi philosopher who lived in the area in the 13th Century. Thousands of followers of the Alevi sect gather in the town every August for special commemoration ceremonies. The Haci Bektas Museum was originally a dervish lodge. It comprises three main sections, each built around a courtyard. The third courtyard includes the marble mausoleum of Haci Bektas. The graves of dervishes are nearby. Visitors can also tour the lodge’s refectory, hamam, guesthouse, mosque, kitchen, and hall where sacred ceremonies were held.
