Housed in a former hospital, Izmir’s Ethnographic Museum is next to the Archaeology Museum. Two floors of exhibits trace life in the Izmir area in the 19th Century. Topics cover local industries and crafts such as pottery, bead production, printing, carpet weaving, leather goods and tin processing. Highlights include a collection of old wedding dresses and replicas of a typical living room and a chemist’s shop. Other exhibits include books, kitchen implements and Ottoman coins.
