Izmir Archaeology Museum features three floors of exhibits from Pergamum, Iasus and other ancient sites. The collection includes pottery, ceramics, Byzantine glass and gold and silver coins. The main displays are artefacts from Bayrakli, the original settlement of Izmir. Among a series of impressive statues are those of Poseidon and Demeter that originally stood in Izmir’s ancient marketplace. A large Roman mosaic is another prize exhibit. Amphoras, columns and capitals recovered from ancient sites stand in the museum grounds.
